RSA memberships are for the calendar year and expire on 31 December each year.

2017 membership dues rates
In 2017 the RSA will adopt a confidential, income-adjusted structure for its membership dues. This new structure will replace our traditional dues categories and is similar to the dues structures used by other large scholarly societies, such as the Medieval Academy of America and the American Historical Association. It differs from the previous structure in that it is progressive: RSA members will be invited to opt in privately at the dues level that is appropriate for their income level and circumstances of employment. The dues structure the RSA Executive Board decided on, after discussing a variety of options over the past eighteen months, is designed to recognize the vast changes that have taken place in academic hiring practices and the impact on our members. Members opting in at income levels of $60,000 and below will see no change or a decrease in their annual dues.
The income from our membership dues supports the projects and endeavors represented in our central operating budget: staffing, the Renaissance Quarterly journal, the Renaissance News newsletter, and so on.
Conference registration fees, which will not increase in 2017, support the cost of our annual meeting, except for a portion of the staff time needed to organize and run the conference, which is included in the central operating budget.
Interest income on our endowed funds such as the General Fund and Paul Oskar Kristeller Fund supports our program of research fellowships and travel grants.

In subsequent years, the dues will increase by 2% annually.
Members located outside the U.S. may wish to use a currency converter to help them select the dues level that is appropriate for themselves.
Our present automatic renewal system will be discontinued for the year 2017 to provide all members with the opportunity to opt in at the level that is appropriate for them. Reminder messages to log in and pay the dues for 2017 will be sent to all 2016 members beginning in November 2016 and through January 2017. In order to ease the transition, 2016 memberships will expire on 15 January 2017, instead of 31 December 2016.
